KIA retreat 2013

DSCF9115

This years KIA Retreat was based in our home in Inverness. Some KIA agents arrived earlier in the week so the retreat unofficially began on Wednesday. We had a welcome supper at the Clachnaharry Inn, our local pub haunted by the ghost of Donald Forbes. We chose a table near to where his ghost likes to be and enjoyed a most delicious meal. We had a friendly chat with the chef who was more than pleased to talk to us about foraging for wild mushrooms. After the meal we walked back to our house through the woods. The path was illuminated by bright moon light and we could hear an owl hoot in a distance.

On Thursday evening we watched ‘Maybe Logic‘, enjoying home made chocolate liqueur made with double cream and a generous dash of chilli powder. Admittedly not all agents turned out to be big fans of hot flavours, which became an issue, as spicy things tend to mysteriously crawl into my cooking.

Friday meant getting up early to meet an agent travelling from Edinburgh. After a quick coffee at the rail station we caught a bus to Foyers. We went passed Boleskine Graveyard and house but this time we didn’t stop there. We decided to enjoy the waterfall and gorge walk down to the loch side. We all entertained ourselves with Foyers Effect although the waterfall turned out to be really narrow this time.

Strolling down the river we picked a few wild mushrooms such as brown birch bolete, hedgehog and cauliflower fungus. There was plenty false chanterelles growing in the forest and a couple of Fly Agarics amongst other mushrooms that we couldn’t identify.

We had a nice picnic on a small beach by Loch Ness, staring into its cold blue waters and soaking up the energy of this unique place. It was a good feeling to be charged up before a weekend of magick. We finished the walk with a cup of tea and coffee at Waterfall Café before returning home.

After a late dinner and a rest, we set up altar for the weekend and proceeded to play around with our newly painted Ouija board. We began by doing the Kia IAO centring ritual. It felt good and brought things into focus. Our aim was to talk to KIA egregore and ask them few simple things. We all had very little or no experience with the board which possibly contributed to this highly amusing evening. KIA was clearly having a laugh but we did get some insightful results and managed to identify some spirits talking to us: Oannes- John, Nyarlathotep, Hecate and Orion. Other answers might make more sense when run through the English Qabala cipher. All in all it was an interesting magickal experience and a great fun.

Saturday was sunny and really warm. After a lazy breakfast and coffee we eventually left the house for a walk down to the Caledonian Canal and the Ness Islands (another haunted place, although I don’t think you would feel it during the day ). Rabbits were running around below the Inverness castle in huge numbers. It was strange seeing so many of them.

We had a break in Leaky’s Café and bookshop, the largest second hand bookshop in Scotland, located in a converted church building. We browsed through some occult books in the miscellaneous section located opposite a large log burner. As usual there were many interesting titles and some of the agents left with a book to join their collections. We walked back home enjoying the sunshine.

It took us a while to get organised in the evening. Agent V was leading the ritual this time. We began by drawing sigils around the fire and after a while each one of us read a segment of the ultraterrestial invocation and we all repeated the chorus. Once we finished we burned the text by throwing it in the fire and for a while hung out in the garden, enjoying the evening.

Eventually Agent V gathered us inside around a small organic looking UFO made of silver balloons and flashing led lights. We sat down in a dark room, in a circle around the UFO. The mix of strange otherworldly beeping sounds from crop circles and UFO sightings was playing in the background as we began the Coherent Thought Sequencing.

The sacrament most of us partook in earlier was having full effect now. Most of us drifted into bizarre dimensions of reality whilst one held the space by staying grounded. We visited dimensions strangely related to each other yet different. The experiences included talking to the Masters of DNA living inside our cells, being controlled by a tentacled monster from deep space, swapping consciousness with a grey alien travelling in a space ship, traversing tunnels of energy inside neurons that seem to span across the whole universe, merging into fractal like structures resembling teletubbies and more. It was an intense and fascinating experience that each participant may want to describe in more detail in the comments, if they feel included to share.

Eventually the sound track fading signalled for us to return to Earth. We noticed that meanwhile it hard started raining very heavy. It seemed as if our magick brought on this downpour. After collecting the stuff left around the fire and preparing some good strong coffee, we all sat together and related our experiences of the ritual. We spent the rest of the night chatting and discussing our visions. There was a lot of giggling and excitement going on. Before going to bed we looked outside at the strange night world drowning in a thick, yellow mist and at twinkling stars above. It was a truly magickal night.

Sunday as one might expect was fairly lazy and relaxed. We went for a short walk to the hill fort in Craig Phadrig forest. The forest was damp and full of honey fungus. Drops of moisture were collected in small cobwebs all around the place. It was very refreshing strolling through. The mountains were drowning in the clouds so you couldn’t see them from the top. The waters of the firth were silver grey and you could hear crows in the tree tops.

DSCF9031

At home we put down a pre-drawn KIA sigil on the floor and during the evening we all filled it up with small sigils, automatic drawings and significant symbols. One of agents took us on a journey into their dream scape in the fashion of a role playing game. We walked around the place familiarizing ourselves with it and its strange inhabitants. It was a very nice way to unwind. We all wondered if we will come back to this place in our dreams. At the end of the evening we all shared a Black Rat and focused on its energy. This served as a closing of the magickal time we shared.

DSCF9063

On Monday I was waken up by clacking of geese flying pass in a large flocks. We had a coffee and a croissant for breakfast and watched ‘Subterranean Dreams’ (an Alchemical.tv film yet to be published). I prepared tomato and roasted pepper soup which got nicknamed ‘Satanic Soup’ because of its colour and the chilli infused oil that crept in somehow. After the meal we had another lovely stroll in the woods. In the evening, one of the agents left for home and the rest of us decided to have a closing celebration in Clachnaharry Inn. Each one of us had a couple of pints and some delicious haggis. We walked along the canal on the way and came back through the woods. Night was quite cold and very pretty. We talked a little about the weekend and our plans for the rest of the year before going to bed.

DSCF9060

The ones who were still present on Tuesday enjoyed a day of watching horror films. We watched short version of Dumplings by Fruit Chan followed by 1957 British horror Night of the Demon. In the evening we enjoyed Nosferatu: Phantom der Nacht by Werner Herzog and The Gate by Tibor Takács snacking on home made macaroons and drinking some heavily peated whisky.

KIA Retreat – October 2013

First off, for various reasons I won’t go into, we can no longer do the retreat on our prefered dates of Crowleymas this year.  But if we get two or three more confirmations, we CAN do it the following week.

UPDATE: The retreat is going ahead this weekend, with at least 5 people in attendance, however it might not be at any of the places mentioned below. Any new comers with whom we haven’t had existing contact should at this point meet with us prior to the retreat itself. A good place. and possibly the only opportunity to do this, is at the Open Circle Moot on Wednesday 16th.  The greyed out text below is no longer the plan, but is left in place so you can see what we originally intended for the retreat.

That will mean arriving at Loch Ness on Friday 18th of October, and leaving on Monday 21st.

Second, the Lodge, as we know from last year, has one master double room with balcony and spring bath, one double bedroom and one twin room with two single beds.  It seems a little unfair to charge the same price for all these options, so this year we would like to divide the cost up as follows:

Master double: £235 (can sleep two).

Double: £210 (can sleep two).

Twin: £180 (can sleep two).

Total cost of lodge is £625.

The hot tub on the veranda is available to all staying in the lodge.

So far, we have three confirmed guests, including myself and Lolita who are happy to take the Master bedroom.  Our other guest is a single male who would occupy one of the beds in the twin room.  This means we can accommodate one other couple and another single in this lodge.

If we got another 4-6 guests in addition to this we could book two lodges, or if we got 1-3 extra there is a B&B nearby that can offer accommodation at similar prices.  But not self catering.

If however, we don’t get any more confirmations, the meeting this year will not be held in a lodge at all.  It doesn’t make sense for us to book the lodge at £200 each, as I originally posted.  I think that is too expensive for us all.  As cool as the weekend is.  Let me know what you all want to do.

KIA Crowleymas Retreat in Loch Ness 2013

After the success of the 2012 KIA retreat on Loch Ness, we have decided to organise one again this year.  This time we are giving several months more notice so more of you can save up the cash and make necessary arrangements to attend.

NOTICE: The dates and prices mentioned below have been changed.

I will organise accommodation for the weekend of Oct 11th, 12th and 13th (now Oct 18th-21st) as we did last year.  To cover deposits and worst case numbers I will need £200GBP (now rooms range from £180-235, meaning a single attendee sharing a room could be as cheap as £90GBP) in advance from each attendee, with possible refunds if numbers work our better than expected. Or I can use any excess to group order the food for the weekend.  Let me know if you require a single or double bedroom, and whether you are willing to share a room.

For those of you who didn’t make it last year, this is what to expect:

    1. Rituals, we performed several over the last retreat.
    2. Quiet time.  Plenty of time for meditation, divination etc.
    3. Walks in a Scots pine forest, taking in the beautiful Falls of Foyers, a beautiful tree covered gorge and down to the shores of Loch Ness itself.

Walks to Boleskine cemetary, opposite Crowley’s old house (now a private residence, so show consideration when there).

  1. Depending on how many people, and where you get accommodated, the facilities are amazing.  One B&B has a no children policy, ensuring a level of peace and quiet.  The self catering lodges come equipped with outdoor hot tubs and spa baths.
  2. The chance to meet and socialise with the fellow magicians you commune with frequently on this site.

Hope to see as many as possible of you there!

KIA Retreat 2012

After the successful and enjoable KIA Retreat 2012 in Foyers by Loch Ness, and a short walk from Boleskin House, the KIA Egregore feels stronger than ever.  Much of the retreat has been written up in detail, so I’ll use this post to summarise the writeup so it gets contained in one place:

Also I’d just like to add, that I had originally intended a group healing rite at some point, although I had no definite plan for how that would happen.  When one of our group contacted a spirit that seemed to have healing properties I suggested we ask it, but the one that made contact seemed reluctant to do this so I didn’t pursue this further.  Instead when I found myself alone in the hot-tub I meditated on the healing energies of the experience.  After absorbing the healing I felt I needed for myself I thought of projecting outwards to those I had heard were in need:

  1. A relative of +Dositheos that had been injured in an act of violence.
  2. Those on the Congregational Illuminism healing list.  I didn’t have the list on me but thought about sending healing energies in support of whoever might be on it.

So a good time was had by all.  Next year, we shall make it bigger and better…

KIA Retreat 2012 – The opening.

On Friday 12th October 2012, 3 couples met in a lodge near to Boleskin House on the shores of Loch Ness for the first KIA retreat.  The venue had superb views of the Loch, self catering facilities and an outdoor hot-tub. Of the 6 persons attending, 5 were actively interested in magic whilst the 6th attendee got on with other things in another room during the time when we performed rituals of any kind.  On arrival we did make the small walk to the falls of Foyers, which was flowing far stronger than I’d ever seen it before, so much so that it appeared to be raining upwards.

Originally we had planned to open the event with a Gnostic Mass, but it became apparent that even the simplified version Lolita was preparing had too many complex parts for participants to learn in advance for a small group that hadn’t worked together before.  Maybe next time.

Mass of Baphomet

Our actual opening ritual consisted of a Mass of Baphomet. This took the form of a 5 stage ritual inspired by the ‘Aeonic Litany’ of Pete Carroll.  As the only participant to have even been in a Baphomet rite before, I was to play[1] the horse or invokee.

In stage 1 all 5 participants danced in a circle beating on drums and shaking rattles, raising the energy of the animating life force of the planet. At the climax, I (as Baphomet’s horse) proclaimed the first line of the litany, ‘In the first Aeon, I was the great spirit’.

This signalled the start of the second stage where the other four danced about me, still with drums and rattles but chanting names of nature deities such as ‘an’, ‘Gaia’ etc. I danced on the balls of my feet to imitate the dance of a being with hoofed legs as I felt the possession grow.  This stage culminated in the second line of the litany, ‘In the second aeon, I was the all creator, all destroyer, Pangenitor, Panphage.’

This was followed by the third phase. Here participants called on the names of Devils, such as ‘Satan’, ‘Lucifer’, ‘Lillith’ etc, but if I approached them too close they would ward me off with holy signs and gestures.  At the climax of this stage I spoke the third line of the litany ‘In the third aeon, humanity knew me as the dark one, the Devil’.

In the fourth stage I was met with silence as participants tried to avoid eye contact with me. This resulted in the forth line of the litany, ‘In the forth aeon, humanity knew me not, for I was occult, the hidden one’.

In the fifth stage, participants chanted names related to Baphomet as the opener of ways, including related openers of the ways from other cultures, such as Ganesha and Legba, and also older forms of the name Baphomet such as Behemoth, whilst making horned gestures towards me. Finally, in full possession I proclaimed the final lines of the litany, ‘In this new aeon, I come before you as Baphomet, the god before all gods, who shall endure till the end of the Earth’.

In possession Baphomet charged the sacrament that was prepared in a drinking horn, with three loud animalistic calls into it, before taking a drink and passing it on.  Baphomet declared the door open and soon after I felt my normal conciousness returning.  I could hold the possession no longer, and as Baphomet decided to depart I felt my body collapsing into a sofa from exhaustion.  As I recovered I stood up and thought to declare myself as Anton once again so as to remove doubt.

We continued to pass around the drinking horn until all sacrament was gone.   No more rituals were performed Friday night, but we felt the doorway to open for the rest of the weekend.  Further accounts to follow…

Notes

[1] Taking a leaf out of Tai Chi, where those that practise together say they ‘play’ Tai Chi together, we talked about playing magic together, and magical playings, rather than working magic together and magical workings. We do this not to detract from the serious intent of the workings so much as to emphasise the importance of pleasure, and to prevent us taking things too seriously.  If a small error is made during a magical play, we need not stress over it.  Stressing over such trivialities can lead to ruining a ritual more than the initial error itself. We do not mean to imply that the ritual was ‘just an act’ like a theatrical play.
